Back to the future: Exploring riverine macroinvertebrate communities' invasibility
نویسندگان
چکیده
Riverine communities have been subject to numerous biological invasion events, with crustaceans among the most successful group of invasive animals worldwide. Understanding what makes a river system prone is considerable interest environmental regulators, resource managers, scientists and wider society globally. The Ponto-Caspian amphipod, Dikerogammarus haemobaphes (Crustacea: Gammaridae), hyper-successful species that was first recorded in UK 2012. use contemporary distribution data for D. (2009–2020) from England provided unique opportunity study faunal community patterns differences between sites experienced compared those not. Macroinvertebrate taxonomic, functional phylogenetic features, as well presence co-occurrent invaders abiotic features systems, were examined before control not invaded during period. Sites would later experience by characterized higher abundances other (e.g., especially Ponto Caspian taxa), lower typically had greater channel width water depth. These basic characteristics may help identify at risk future haemobaphes. Most biomonitoring tools displayed no difference pre-invaded samples, while both taxonomic richness values subsequently invaded, questioning classic hypotheses. Recognizing specific be precondition subsequent essential understanding better predicting their trajectories change.

Predicting River Macroinvertebrate Communities Distributional Shifts under Future Global Change Scenarios in the Spanish Mediterranean Area
Several studies on global change over the next century predict increases in mean air temperatures of between 1°C to 5°C that would affect not only water temperature but also river flow. Climate is the predominant environmental driver of thermal and flow regimes of freshwater ecosystems, determining survival, growth, metabolism, phenology and behaviour as well as biotic interactions of aquatic f...

Learning communities (LCs) have increasingly been incorporated into undergraduate medical education at a number of medical schools in the United States over the past decade. In an Association of Medical Colleges survey of 140 medical schools, 102 schools indicated that they had LC (described as colleges or mentorship groups; https://www.aamc.org/initiatives/cir/425510/19a.html). LCs share an ov...
متن کاملBack to the Evolutionary Future
Many books on evolution focus on the distant past or the present. Very few authors addressing a lay audience present what evolutionary changes may look like in the future. Coker has done so in this popular science book intended for a general audience. Basing the text on his similarly named course given at Elon University, the author provides a fascinating account of diverse aspects of evolution...
